Coaching & Consultation

My coaching focuses on action, identifying barriers, and changing habits – all of which can create a significant shift in your personal and professional life. Coaching is a more directive approach to change and can be appealing to individuals who are looking for personal or professional improvement. With coaching or consultation, I help individuals and professional teams clarify goals and overcome challenges to achieving them, starting with 6-12 sessions.

Similar to my therapeutic approach, I work with you to tap into your inner resources in order to achieve your goals. I utilize two evidenced based and goal-oriented approaches to communication for coaching – both are guided by my direct observation of a series of questions I ask during sessions.

Solutions Focused (SF) Approach

If it’s working, keep doing it! If it’s not working, try something different. The SF approach:

  • Focuses on strengths and solutions
  • Highlights successes
  • Acknowledges exceptions to problems
  • Emphasizes what is possible and changeable
  • Focuses on the present and future
  • Empowers self-agency and confidence
  • Is short term
  • Helps you envision your life with your goals attained and believe that this is possible
Motivational Interviewing (MI) Approach

We often know what we need to do to change or implement new habits. Knowing what to do it not necessarily the issue. The MI approach:

  • Focuses on the language of change
  • Strengthens commitment to a goal by identifying your meaning or reasons for change
  • Empowers & resolves ambivalence
  • Evokes what you already know, and offers reflection
  • Is a guided style of communication & information sharing
  • Offers unconditional positive regard
