Advocacy

Health

HealthWhether you are you are faced with a new health issue, chronic illness, or disparities in the health care system, we will work together to ensure you are connected with the right providers and are supported in your self-advocacy. I collaborate with both traditional and nonconventional practitioners and offer recommendations when appropriate. Some clients continue working with me for body-centered therapy and further emotional healing related to their physical illness.

Certain procedures require surgical readiness referral letters, and assurance that the patient is prepared and supported before, during, and after surgery. I provide short term assessments and consultation to help prepare you for surgery as well as long term support after recovery. My letters are evaluative in nature, supporting your qualification for surgery – often requested as part of a psychological evaluation.

I’ve worked with clients who have had bariatric procedures which can be physically and emotionally challenging. The psychological evaluation may require you see a therapist as part of the preparation phase of the surgery. Therapy after surgery can help you process the emotional component weight loss, heal internalized stigma, develop a new relationship with your body, and build strategies and resources for success.

LGBTQI have also successfully supported many clients advocate for their gender affirming care. If you are going to have any form of gender affirming surgery you may be required to see a therapist as part of the process. Therapeutic support can be beneficial for your emotional wellbeing and help you advocate for ongoing equal access to health care. I am a member of WPATH, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, and stay current on disparities and legislation in Massachusetts impacting Transgender Heath.

Employment

I contract with Health Advocate, Inc., a US national health advocacy company and receive referrals from various Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) in Massachusetts. I provide short term vocational counseling and have supported many consultation clients through navigating their employee rights, understanding their agency benefits, and educating themselves on state disability laws.

Immigration

ImmigrationTrained by the Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) in 2018, I provide forensic evaluations for asylum seekers. This can include trauma-informed interviewing, affidavit writing, and court presentations.

I work with survivors of torture, domestic abuse, trafficking, and other forms of persecution. These forensic evaluations can corroborate an asylum seeker’s claim of having suffered violence and persecution by documenting clinical evidence of physical and psychological trauma, torture, and other human rights abuses.

I utilize best practices for collaboration between health professionals and attorneys, cross-cultural communication, and my training in human rights law, and asylum law. I am a member of the PHR Asylum Network which comprises more than 2,000 members nationwide who volunteer their time to provide pro bono forensic medical and psychological evaluations.
